T5.2 6 of 6 Were you able to do all the problems in the last page? If some seem hard, then don't feel as though you're out of it. For some people (most people?!) the knack of doing derivations just takes a little patience. In the next tutorial we will introduce a slightly different kind of rule. This rule asks "what if, besides the premises, some other condition is true?" (This is a common question to ask in English. In fact, didn't some of you just ask yourselves "what if I just ignore derivations and wait for the next chapter?" For what it's worth, you can't do that! Later chapters will involve derivations too. Time to dig in and get this material.) Anyway, we do ask such "what if" questions. In the next tutorial we will formalize these in order to give a rule for conditional introduction, >I. But before moving on, make sure you understand this section's derivations. Take me to the next tutorial! |
