Downloading from the Café

It's easy to download the Café's Logic Font or the entire Logic Café web site. You can download quickly and easily from the home page drop down menu. Macintosh and Linux users, click here. Anyone prefering the Flash Guide, click here. Otherwise, follow these instructions:

For instance, to download the whole Café onto your computer, just click on the little down arrow next to "Select and Save...", select "The Logic Café", wait a moment and then choose to save to your desktop. When the download completes, double-click the new icon on your desktop, and allow the automatic "unziping" of files. The result is a new shortcut on your desktop which opens the Café. And once this is accomplished, there's no need to tie up the phone lines! It's now all on your hard drive. (You may also go to the computer lab, or most any public library, and save the Café onto a floppy. Then bring it home.)

But if you've not done this sort of thing before or have problems with the drop-down menu, click here for directions to the Logic Font, and here for directions for downloading or updating the whole Logic Café web site.

You may want to update once in awhile — see the date assigned — as the Café is undergoing revisions and some additions. (Note: If no update is available — as often happens between terms — just download the entire Café.)

Finally, you may want to update to the newest available browsers. They tend to have fewer bugs! Just select "Internet Explorer" or "Netscape Navigator" from the list. (As of winter 2000/2001, the newest Netscape, version 6, is not supported by the Café. But support is in the works.)

Downloading the Logic Font: This will allow you to display all the special characters you'll need in this course. For Macintosh or Linux, click here. For Windows, follow the directions which follow or go to the Flash Guide.

1. For Netscape: Hold the shift key down and click here. (This is a "SHFT-click".) For Internet Explorer, click here with the right mouse button and select "save target as". (This is a "right-click".)
   
2. Save the file, logic.exe somewhere easy to find, say on your "Windows Desktop".
3. Now, double click this file and it will produce the logic font, "logic.ttf" wherever you choose to put it. Normally it will go in your c:\windows directory.
4. Using "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer", go to your fonts folder (C:\windows\fonts), click "file", and "install new font".
5. Select the new file, "Logic", you just produced. Click "OK" and your computer can display logic's special characters.

If this doesn't make sense, or you have a different system, look to the help files. In Windows 98, click Start, Help. In the index, enter "Fonts" and select "adding to your computer". This will walk you through the installation.

It's easy to download the entire Logic Café or update your download. The update is a small download that gives you the most recent changes. Remember, the Café is still under construction!

Either download requires Windows 95, 98 or NT. (I'll work on other platforms if anyone's interested.)

• The entire Logic Café:

2. In a moment, you'll be asked for a location to which to save the file. Pick somewhere easy to find, say to your desktop.
3. Wait...the download could take up to 5 minutes if you're acquiring the entire cafe and not just updating.
4. Now, double click the new "theLogicCafe" icon where you've saved the file -- probably on your desktop. Everything else should be easy: a browser icon will appear to get you started.

1. The font, Logic.ttf is now located in the Cafe folder, probably on your desktop. Make sure of its location.
